Welcome to the first On & Off the Lanes Newsletter

I am anxious to see where this goes and how effective it is at growing the BowlU community. One of the things I enjoy the most about the time we bowlers spend together is the randomness of conversation. I see real value in talking about things other than the knowledge and experience we share as competitive bowlers.

I consider the non-bowling topics a release from the constant bombardment of bowling related requests. I am not saying we won't be talking about bowling related topics in On & Off the Lanes because I am sure we will, but the "& Off" addition is an invitation to share things that make us laugh, smile, and appreciate the real world we all share.

Instead of me just telling you about the next great BowlU initiative I could share with you how I have 3 dogs at my feet right now that are eagerly waiting for their popcorn catching ritual I thought was going to be a one off thing but they are starting to demand it on a regular basis.

I better be careful because that is how the carrot ritual got started. Pretty soon the pack will be eating carrots, popcorn, peanut M&M's, and yogurt.

It seems every snack I get for myself ends up being theirs. Maybe I could make that a new diet craze because I don't end up eating many of the snacks I buy for myself.

Back to the bowling stuff, I am leaving for a USBC group meeting on Wednesday and Thursday and then straight to a Teaching Transitions camp in Lynchburg, Va. I get back on Monday and then I have one week to get caught up with everything I want to get done before I become a "one-armed bandit" again. Yes, another shoulder surgery. That ought to make this newsletter an exiting challenge. Anyone want to become a BowlU secretary?

I better get back to the work I have going on with Pocket Coach because I am pretty sure that is going to be a great resource for all Team BowlU members. Be sure to give me all the feedback you can on Pocket Coach because that is my main focus right now.

The big picture plans for me involve getting better and better at online options for BowlU for a couple reasons. One is it allows me to share with more people than individual lessons and camps but it is also the only way I can actually provide the "more" that is requested from me.

Let me know how I am doing with all of this online resources because I started from dumb as a rock and am doing my best to get better and better with technology. Man, it is hard to keep up with all the changes they keep making. I am a builder and problem solver by nature but this computer stuff can drive me nuts at times.

I will leave you with this thought. Together we can make BowlU and the BowlU Team the greatest bowling resource in the world and I could use your help in spreading the word.

Thank you for being part of the Team and let me know if there is anything that I can do to make it even better.

Is Bowling Really That Different?
We hear people talk about how different bowling is than it use to be. Now I am not naieve, but I haven't had to change anything I have been teaching since the early 90's. Yes Reactive Resin coverstocks made me rethink what was going on, but since I spent a whole lot of time sorting through everything and piecing it back together again, I can honestly argue that from my perspective it is the sam...

On & Off the Lanes

The on-lane stuff is good but it is the off-lane stuff that makes bowling great. Intended to be as random as the conversations we have at the bowl.
